Penn State Lady Lions’ junior guard Maggie Lucas was voted the 2013 Premier Player of Women’s College Basketball by sports fans in a recent online poll. The 2013 Big Ten Player of the Year also claimed All-Big Ten first-team accolades for the second consecutive season after averaging 20.1 points per game on the year. She is the first Lady Lion to finish the year averaging 20 or more point since Kelly Mazzante in 2003-04. She tallied 644 points on the season to become just the second player in program history to record back-to-back 600-point campaigns, joining Mazzante. Other candidates for The 2013 Premier Player of Women’s College Basketball trophy included Baylor’s center Brittney Griner (2012 Premier Player), Stanford’s forward Chiney Ogwumike, Delaware’s Elena Delle Donne and Notre Dame’s guard Skylar Diggins.
Kachine Alexander, a senior guard for the University of Iowa, was voted by the fans as The 2011 Premier Player of Women’s College Basketball. She was presented the trophy by Premier Players CEO Carnell Moore and Charlotte Sports Commission Executive Director Jeff Beaver, right, during an introductory event on April 16, 2011, at the Aloft Uptown Charlotte Hotel, NC. Alexander, and senior guard Nolan Smith of Duke University became the first recipients of The Premier Player of College Basketball award which will be used as an annual fundraiser for children charities.
